Richard Aube

Richard Aube

Mr. Aube joined Pine Brook in July 2011 and is a managing partner. He is responsible for managing the Firm’s energy investment activities. He is also a member of the Firm’s Management Committee and Investment Committee. Mr. Aube represents Pine Brook as a board director of Accelerate Resources Holdings, LLC, Cahill Services, LLC, GR Energy Services Holdings LP, Pursuit Oil & Gas, LLC, Saguaro Resources Ltd., Serafina Energy Ltd. and Strategic Funding Source, Inc. (d/b/a Kapitus).

Mr. Aube has 28 years of experience in the energy sector. Prior to joining Pine Brook, Mr. Aube was with D.E. Shaw & Company, a multi-strategy global investment firm, where he was a managing director responsible for co-managing the firm’s North American private equity effort. Previously, Mr. Aube was a partner with J.P. Morgan Partners, a multibillion-dollar private equity firm affiliated with JPMorgan Chase, where he focused on growth equity and buyout investments in the energy and industrial sectors. Earlier in his career, he was a partner with the Beacon Group, an investment and advisory firm.

Mr. Aube holds a B.A. from Dartmouth College.

Howard H. Newman

Howard H. Newman

Mr. Newman is a managing partner of Pine Brook, which he co-founded in 2006. He is also a member of the Firm’s Management Committee and Investment Committee. Mr. Newman represents Pine Brook as a board director of Better Holdco, Inc. (d/b/a Better Mortgage) and Elevation Resources Holdings, LLC.

Prior to co-founding Pine Brook, Mr. Newman was with Warburg Pincus for 22 years, most recently as vice chairman and senior advisor, and as a senior member of the firm’s management and investment committees. At Warburg Pincus, he led or co-led the energy, financial services, media, real estate and general investment practices. Before joining Warburg Pincus, Mr. Newman spent 10 years in energy and financial services investment banking at Morgan Stanley & Co. Incorporated.

Over the course of his career, he has been a director or observer on the boards of more than 45 companies, including 18 public companies. Mr. Newman’s previous board experience includes Bill Barrett Corporation, Encore Acquisition Partners, Gryphon Exploration Company, Kosmos Energy LLC, J. Makowski Company, The Marine Drilling Companies Inc., Newfield Exploration Company, Spinnaker Exploration Inc. and Targa Resources, Inc., as well as Cox Insurance Holdings PLC, Dime Bancorp, Inc., RenaissanceRe Holdings Ltd., SLM Corporation and TAC Bancshares, Inc.

In addition to overseeing Pine Brook’s portfolio, Mr. Newman is a trustee of the Salk Institute for Biological Studies and serves on the board of the Tunisian American Enterprise Fund. During the term of Governor George Pataki of New York, Mr. Newman was an advisor on energy policy and a senior advisor to the Long Island Power Authority. Mr. Newman has served as a chairman of the Yale Alumni Fund and as a member of the Yale University Council and the advisory board of the university’s Climate & Energy Institute.

Mr. Newman holds a B.A. in Economics (magna cum laude with Distinction) and an M.A. in Economics from Yale University, and a Ph.D. in Business Economics from Harvard University. He was a Marshall Scholar at Cambridge University.

Ted Maa

Ted Maa

Mr. Maa joined Pine Brook in July 2012 and is a partner on the energy investment team. He is also a member of the Investment Committee. Mr. Maa represents Pine Brook as a board director of Accelerate Resources Holdings, LLC, Ancova Midstream, LLC, Elevation Resources Holdings LLC, Saguaro Resources Ltd. and Serafina Energy Ltd.

Before joining Pine Brook, Mr. Maa was a vice president at Denham Capital Management, LP, where he specialized in energy infrastructure and oilfield services investment opportunities. Prior to that, Mr. Maa was an analyst in the Global Investment Research Group at Goldman, Sachs & Co, where he focused on energy master limited partnerships. Earlier in his career, he spent two years with Apache Corporation as an analyst in the Strategic Planning Group.

Mr. Maa holds a B.B.A. in Finance from the University of Texas and an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School.

Richard Stoneburner

Richard Stoneburner

Mr. Stoneburner joined Pine Brook in April 2013 and is an executive advisor.  He is also a member of the Investment Committee. Mr. Stoneburner represents Pine Brook as a board director of Accelerate Resources Holdings, LLC, Brigham Minerals, LLC, Elevation Resources Holdings, LLC, Pursuit Oil & Gas, LLC, Saguaro Resources Ltd. and Serafina Energy Ltd.

Mr. Stoneburner has more than 41 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. He was president of the North America Shale Production Division for BHP Billiton Petroleum from 2011 to 2012. From 2009 to 2011, Mr. Stoneburner was president and chief operating officer of Petrohawk Energy Corporation. He was the company’s chief operating officer from 2007 to 2009, and led their exploration activities as vice president and then executive vice president of exploration from 2003 to 2007. Mr. Stoneburner began his career as a geologist in 1977 and held positions at Texas Oil and Gas Corp., Weber Energy Corp., Hugoton Energy Corp. and 3TEC Energy Corp.

Mr. Stoneburner serves on the boards of directors of Yuma Exploration and Tamboran Resources and is an advisor to Ayata. He also serves on the advisory council of the Jackson School of Geosciences at the University of Texas at Austin, on the visiting committee of the Bureau of Economic Geology at the University of Texas at Austin, and on the boards of Switch Energy Alliance and Memorial Assistance Ministries.

Mr. Stoneburner holds a B.S. in Geological Sciences from the University of Texas at Austin and an M.S. in Geological Sciences from Wichita State University.

Jason Berg

Jason Berg

Mr. Berg joined Pine Brook in August 2013 and is a principal on the energy investment team. He represents Pine Brook as a board director of Cahill Services, LLC, GR Energy Services, LLC and Pursuit Oil & Gas, LLC.

Prior to joining Pine Brook, Mr. Berg worked as an investment professional at Trident Capital (“Trident”) and as vice president of corporate development for a Trident portfolio company. Before joining Trident, he was an investment banker at Lehman Brothers and Barclays Capital. Mr. Berg served six years as an intelligence officer in the United States Marine Corps.

Mr. Berg holds a B.S. (with distinction) from the United States Naval Academy, an M.Sc. from the London School of Economics (Marshall Scholar) and a J.D. from Stanford Law School.

Nicholas Chew

Nicholas Chew

Mr. Chew joined Pine Brook in August 2012 and is a principal on the energy investment team. He represents Pine Brook as a board director of Ancova Midstream, LLC.

Prior to joining Pine Brook, Mr. Chew was with Oppenheimer & Co., where he was an analyst in the Industrial Growth and Services Group specializing in transactions related to oil & gas, midstream, chemicals and transportation.

Mr. Chew holds a B.S. in Business Administration (cum laude) from the Robins School of Business at the University of Richmond, with a dual concentration in Finance and Economics.

Alex Goheen

Alex Goheen

Mr. Goheen joined Pine Brook in August 2017 and is a vice president on the energy investment team.

Mr. Goheen came to Pine Brook from Evercore Partners where he spent three years as an analyst in the firm’s Energy Group.

Mr. Goheen holds a B.A. in Finance from the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University.

 

Devin Haley

Devin Haley

Mr. Haley joined Pine Brook in August 2019 and is an associate on the energy investment team.

Mr. Haley came to Pine Brook from RBC Capital Markets where he spent two years as an analyst in the firm’s Energy Group.

Mr. Haley holds a B.B.A. in Accounting and an M.S. in Finance from Texas A&M University.

Connor Johns

Connor Johns

Mr. Johns joined Pine Brook in August 2019 and is an associate on the energy investment team.

Mr. Johns came to Pine Brook from Citigroup where he spent two years as an analyst in the firm’s Energy Group.

Mr. Johns holds a B.B.A. in Corporate Finance (with honors) from The University of Texas at Austin.
