Mr. Spiegel is a founder of Pine Brook and together with Mr. Glanville is responsible for Pine Brook's financial services investing activities. He currently serves on the board of directors of Aurigen Re Capital Limited, Lancashire Holdings Limited, Narragansett Bay Insurance Company and Syndicate Holding Corp. Mr. Spiegel brings over 17 years of private equity experience to the Firm, including more than seven years of financial services investment experience.  He was with The Cypress Group ("Cypress") from its inception in 1994 until 2006, where from 2005 he served as that firm's President.  Beginning in 2001, Mr. Spiegel managed the financial services and healthcare investing activities of Cypress and served as a director of all of Cypress' financial services and healthcare portfolio companies: Catlin Group Limited, FGIC Corporation, MedPointe, Inc., Montpelier Re Holdings Ltd., Scottish Re Group Limited and Lancashire Holdings Limited. Cypress and its co-investors invested approximately $1.1 billion of equity into these companies. Prior to joining Cypress, Mr. Spiegel worked in the Merchant Banking Group at Lehman Brothers. Mr. Spiegel holds a B.Sc. in Economics from The London School of Economics, an M.A. in Economics from The University of Western Ontario and an M.B.A. from The University of Chicago.
