Howard H. Newman
Howard H. NewmanChairman and Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Newman is chairman and chief executive officer of Pine Brook, which he co-founded in 2006. He is also a member of the Firm’s Management Committee and Investment Committee. Mr. Newman represents Pine Brook on the boards of Elevation Resources Holdings, LLC and La Luna Energy Partners, LP. Over the course of his career, he has been a director or observer on the boards of more than 50 companies, including 20 public companies.

Prior to co-founding Pine Brook, Mr. Newman was with Warburg Pincus for 22 years, most recently as vice chairman and senior advisor, and as a senior member of the firm’s management and investment committees. At Warburg Pincus, he led or co-led the energy, financial services, media, real estate and general investment practices, and was directly involved in investments in 47 companies, including Bill Barrett Corporation, Encore Acquisition Partners, Gryphon Exploration Company, Kosmos Energy LLC, J. Makowski Company, The Marine Drilling Companies Inc., Newfield Exploration Company, Spinnaker Exploration Inc. and Targa Resources, Inc., as well as Arch Capital Group Ltd., Dime Bancorp, Inc., Mellon Bank Corporation, RenaissanceRe Holdings Ltd. and TAC Bancshares, Inc. Before joining Warburg Pincus, Mr. Newman spent 10 years in energy and financial services investment banking at Morgan Stanley & Co. Incorporated.

In addition to overseeing Pine Brook’s portfolio, Mr. Newman is a trustee of the Salk Institute for Biological Studies and serves on the board of the Tunisian American Enterprise Fund. During the term of Governor George Pataki of New York, Mr. Newman was an advisor on energy policy and a senior advisor to the Long Island Power Authority. Mr. Newman has served as a chairman of the Yale Alumni Fund and as a member of the Yale University Council and the advisory board of the university’s Climate & Energy Institute.

Mr. Newman holds a B.A. in Economics (magna cum laude with Distinction) and an M.A. in Economics from Yale University, and a Ph.D. in Business Economics from Harvard University. He was a Marshall Scholar at Cambridge University.

Richard Aube
Richard AubeCo-President

Mr. Aube joined Pine Brook in July 2011 and is co-president of Pine Brook. He is responsible for managing the Firm’s energy investment activities. He is also a member of the Firm’s Management Committee and Investment Committee. Shaw & Company, a multi-strategy global investment firm, where he was a managing director responsible for co-managing the firm’s North American private equity effort. Previously, Mr. Aube was a partner with J.P. Morgan Partners, a multibillion-dollar private equity firm affiliated with JPMorgan Chase, where he focused on growth equity and buyout investments in the energy and industrial sectors. Earlier in his career, he was a partner with the Beacon Group, an investment and advisory firm.

Mr. Aube holds a B.A. in Sociology and Economics from Dartmouth College.

William Spiegel
William SpiegelCo-President

Mr. Spiegel is co-president and a founding partner of Pine Brook. He is responsible for managing Pine Brook’s financial services investing activities. Mr. Spiegel is also a member of the Firm’s Management Committee and Investment Committee. He represents Pine Brook as a board director of Fair Square Financial Holdings LLC, Fidelis Insurance Holdings Ltd., Global Atlantic Financial Group and Syndicate Holding Corp. He is an independent director of Essent Group Ltd.

Mr. Spiegel has 28 years of private equity investment experience. Before co-founding Pine Brook, he was with the Cypress Group from its inception in 1994 until 2006, leading its financial services and healthcare investing activities. Before joining the Cypress Group, Mr. Spiegel worked in the Merchant Banking Group at Lehman Brothers. He has served on the boards of directors of 19 companies, including seven publicly traded corporations. Mr. Spiegel is currently a member of the advisory board of the University of Chicago Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and the Private Equity Council.

Mr. Spiegel holds a B.Sc. in Economics from the London School of Economics, an M.A. in Economics from the University of Western Ontario and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago.

Andre Burba
Andre BurbaManaging Director, Energy Investment Team

Mr. Burba joined Pine Brook in September 2008 and is a managing director on the energy investment team. He is also a member of the Investment Committee. Mr. Burba represents Pine Brook as a board director of Ancova Midstream, LLC, Gulf Pine Energy Partners, LP, High Ground Energy Inc., Red Bluff Resources, LLC, Saguaro Resources Ltd. and Serafina Energy Ltd.

Mr. Burba has more than 17 years of experience in the energy sector as a principal investor, investment banker and project finance counsel. Before joining Pine Brook, Mr. Burba was with Credit Suisse, where he was a principal investor in the Special Opportunities Group and was responsible for investments in energy, metals and mining, renewables, and oil and gas. Prior to joining the Special Opportunities Group, Mr. Burba was an investment banker in the Energy Group at Credit Suisse. He began his career as a project finance counsel at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy.

Mr. Burba holds a B.A. in Mathematics and a B.A. in Music (summa cum laude) from West Virginia University, and a J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School, where he was a John S. Beasley Scholar. Mr. Burba is a member of the board of advisors of the Vanderbilt University Law School.

Arnold L. Chavkin
Arnold L. ChavkinSenior Advisor

Mr. Chavkin joined Pine Brook as chief investment officer in February 2008, and became a senior advisor in January 2017. He is also a member of the Investment Committee. Mr. Chavkin currently represents Pine Brook as a board director of GR Energy Services Holdings.

Mr. Chavkin has over 39 years of financial and investment management experience, including 30 years of experience in the private equity industry. Prior to joining Pine Brook, Mr. Chavkin was with J.P. Morgan Partners, a multibillion-dollar private equity firm affiliated with JP Morgan Chase, for 17 years, serving as the chief investment officer from 2001 to 2006. His earlier responsibilities at J.P. Morgan Partners included building and overseeing the investment teams in the energy and media/telecommunications industries, and expanding the firm’s international presence in Europe, Asia and Latin America. Prior to joining J.P. Morgan Partners in 1990, Mr. Chavkin was one of the first members of Chemical Bank’s Merchant Banking Group and its Corporate Finance Group, specializing in mergers and acquisitions and private placements for the energy industry. Earlier in his career, he held positions at Freeport McMoRan, Gulf and Western Industries and Arthur Young & Company. Mr. Chavkin is a member of the Columbia Business School Board of Overseers.

Mr. Chavkin holds a B.A. in Oriental Studies from Columbia College and an M.B.A in Finance and Accounting from Columbia Business School. He was a Certified Public Accountant.

Senior Advisor

Mr. Gantz is a founding partner, a senior advisor and a member of the Investment Committee.

Mr. Gantz has extensive experience in corporate senior management and is an experienced and successful investor. In 1996 and 1997, respectively, he played an integral role in the successful turnaround of Seymour Housewares Corp., a portfolio company of Chase Capital Partners, and Fitz & Floyd, Inc., a portfolio company of ML-Lee Acquisition Funds II, LP, a joint fund managed by Thomas H. Lee Partners and Merrill Lynch. He served as the chairman and/or CEO of Empire Brushes, Inc., Seymour Housewares Corp. and PECO Pallet. In 1998, he became a founding partner of an SBIC fund focused on investing in creative retail concepts, consumer products and financial services companies.

Mr. Gantz holds a B.A. in History from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School.

Oliver Goldstein
Oliver GoldsteinManaging Director, Financial Services Investment Team

Mr. Goldstein joined Pine Brook in October 2009 and is a managing director on the financial services investment team. He is also a member of the Investment Committee. Mr. Goldstein represents Pine Brook as a board director of Fair Square Financial Holdings LLC, Origin Bancorp, Inc. and Strategic Funding Source, Inc.

Mr. Goldstein has 22 years of private equity and financial advisory experience. From 2005 to 2009, he was a partner and senior managing director at Eton Park Capital Management, an investment firm with more than $12 billion of capital under management. Mr. Goldstein started and led Eton Park’s U.S. private investment effort, establishing an investment strategy concentrated on growth equity financings and special situations, with a primary industry focus in financial services. His investments at Eton Park included Commercial International Bank, Ariel Re and Harbor Point Limited. Mr. Goldstein was with Warburg Pincus from 1999 to 2005, most recently as a managing director responsible for leveraged buyouts and direct investments in public companies. In 2000, he played a significant role in executing Warburg Pincus’ investment in Dime Bancorp with Mr. Newman. The following year, he received the first John L. Vogelstein Award, which recognizes the Warburg Pincus investment professional who most demonstrates keen investment judgment. Earlier in his career, Mr. Goldstein worked for Fenway Partners and Goldman, Sachs & Co.

Mr. Goldstein holds a B.S. in Mathematics and Economics (summa cum laude) from Duke University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and an M.B.A. with High Distinction from Harvard Business School, where he was a George F. Baker Scholar.

Nicholaos Krenteras
Nicholaos KrenterasManaging Director, Financial Services Investment Team

Mr. Krenteras joined Pine Brook in August 2006 and is a managing director on the financial services investment team. He is also a member of the Investment Committee. Mr. Krenteras represents Pine Brook as a board director of Belmont Green Limited, Better Mortgage, Clear Blue Financial Holdings LLC and Syndicate Holding Corp.

Mr. Krenteras has 17 years of private equity investment and operating experience. Prior to joining Pine Brook, Mr. Krenteras spent nine years in the financial services industry working for LabMorgan, JP Morgan’s financial technology venture capital arm, as vice president of portfolio development. Earlier in his career, he worked for Bank of America as an interest rate derivatives trader and as the vice president of trading and business development for Pedestal Capital, a start-up institutional brokerage for mortgage-backed securities.

Mr. Krenteras holds an A.B. in International Relations from Brown University and an M.B.A. from the Columbia Business School, where he was a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society.

James P. Rutherfurd
James P. RutherfurdManaging Director, Investor Relations

Mr. Rutherfurd joined Pine Brook in February 2015 and is a managing director responsible for overseeing investor relations. He is also a member of the Investment Committee.

Prior to joining Pine Brook, Mr. Rutherfurd was with 3i Group, an international investor focused on private equity, infrastructure and debt management, where he was a partner responsible for fund investor relations and fundraising in the Americas. Previously, Mr. Rutherfurd was executive vice president and managing director at the private equity firm Veronis Suhler Stevenson (“VSS”), where he was in charge of investor relations, fundraising and the firm’s co-investment program for six years. Prior to his tenure at VSS, Mr. Rutherfurd was a managing director at J.P. Morgan & Co. in the Technology, Media and Telecom Industry Investment Banking Group. Earlier in his career, Mr. Rutherfurd held positions as a director at The First Boston Corporation (now Credit Suisse) and as a corporate and securities lawyer at the New York law firm Rogers & Wells (now Clifford Chance).

Mr. Rutherfurd holds an A.B. in Near Eastern Studies (summa cum laude) from Princeton University and a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law.

Managing Director, Investor Relations

Mr. Rutherfurd joined Pine Brook in February 2015 and is a managing director responsible for overseeing investor relations. He is also a member of the Investment Committee.

Prior to joining Pine Brook, Mr. Rutherfurd was with 3i Group, an international investor focused on private equity, infrastructure and debt management, where he was a partner responsible for fund investor relations and fundraising in the Americas. Previously, Mr. Rutherfurd was executive vice president and managing director at the private equity firm Veronis Suhler Stevenson (“VSS”), where he was in charge of investor relations, fundraising and the firm’s co-investment program for six years. Emily Sharko
Emily SharkoManaging Director, Chief Operating Officer

Ms. Sharko joined Pine Brook in June 2018. She is a managing director, chief operating officer and a member of the Investment Committee.

Prior to joining Pine Brook, Ms. Sharko spent seven years at Blackstone, where she was most recently the chief administrative officer of the Tactical Opportunities group. Previously, Ms. Sharko was the chief administrative officer for the Park Hill Group, a division of Blackstone. Prior to her tenure at Blackstone, Ms. Sharko spent 13 years practicing law, most recently as an attorney in Morgan Stanley’s U.S. Litigation Department. Prior to Morgan Stanley, Ms. Sharko was a Director in Citigroup’s Regulatory Enforcement Group. Ms. Sharko began her legal career at Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP.

Ms. Sharko holds a B.A. with Honors from the University of Pennsylvania, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Economics from The London School of Economics and a J.D. from Columbia Law School.

Previously, Ms. Sharko was the chief administrative officer for the Park Hill Group, a division of Blackstone. Prior to her tenure at Blackstone, Ms. Sharko spent 13 years practicing law, most recently as an attorney in Morgan Stanley’s U.S. Litigation Department. Prior to Morgan Stanley, Ms. Sharko was a Director in Citigroup’s Regulatory Enforcement Group. Ms. Sharko began her legal career at Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP.

Bharath Srikrishnan
Bharath SrikrishnanManaging Director, Financial Services Investment Team

Mr. Srikrishnan joined Pine Brook in September 2015 and is a managing director on the financial services investment team. He is also a member of the Investment Committee. Mr. Srikrishnan has 17 years of financial services investment and operating experience. Before joining Pine Brook, he was a managing director at Five Mile Capital Partners, where he was responsible for leading the firm’s financial services investment activities. Mr. Srikrishnan previously was a principal of Lee Equity Partners, where he focused on making financial services private equity investments. Additionally, he was a co-founder and managing director of NewStar Financial, Inc., a private equity-backed middle market commercial finance company that successfully completed an initial public offering. Mr. Stoneburner has more than 41 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. He was president of the North America Shale Production Division for BHP Billiton Petroleum from 2011 to 2012. From 2009 to 2011, Mr. Stoneburner was president and chief operating officer of Petrohawk Energy Corporation. He was the company’s chief operating officer from 2007 to 2009, and led their exploration activities as vice president and then executive vice president of exploration from 2003 to 2007. Mr. Stoneburner began his career as a geologist in 1977 and held positions at Texas Oil and Gas Corp., Weber Energy Corp., Hugoton Energy Corp. and 3TEC Energy Corp.

Mr. Stoneburner serves on the boards of directors of Yuma Exploration and Tamboran Resources and is an advisor to Ayata. He also serves on the advisory council of the Jackson School of Geosciences at the University of Texas at Austin, on the visiting committee of the Bureau of Economic Geology at the University of Texas at Austin, and on the boards of Switch Energy Alliance and Memorial Assistance Ministries.

Mr. Stukov began his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he was a senior auditor in their Alternative Investments Asset Management practice.

Mr. Klein joined Pine Brook in August 2017 and is a vice president on the financial services investment team. He represents Pine Brook as a board director of United PanAm Financial Corp.

Before joining Pine Brook, Mr. Klein was with Kynikos Associates, where he focused on publicly traded financial services companies. Previously, Mr. Klein was an associate at Lovell Minnick Partners, where he focused on investments in the financial and business services sectors.  Mr. Klein began his career as an investment banking analyst in the Financial Institutions Group at Citigroup.

Mr. Klein holds a B.S. in Finance (with high distinction) from the Schreyer Honors College at the Pennsylvania State University and an M.B.A. (with honors) from Columbia Business School.

Nikhita Raman

Ms. Raman joined Pine Brook in July 2018 and is a vice president on the financial services investment team.

Before joining Pine Brook, Ms. Raman spent five years at Goldman Sachs, where she most recently evaluated and executed private equity and debt opportunities as part of the firm’s principal investing activities through the Urban Investment Group. Ms. Raman began her career as an investment banking analyst at Goldman Sachs, where she focused on structured finance and advisory solutions for financial institutions.

Ms. Raman holds an Sc.B. in Applied Mathematics-Economics (with honors) from Brown University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

Previously, she spent three years as a senior audit associate at KPMG, LLP, focused on financial services.

Ms. Amendolagine holds a B.S. in Accounting (cum laude) from American University’s Kogod School of Business and is a Certified Public Accountant.
