Mr. Johnston joined Pine Brook in April of 2008 to work on investments in the financial services industry.  Prior to joining Pine Brook, Mr. Johnston was a Senior Associate at Lightyear Capital, a $3 billion private equity firm, where he was responsible for transactions in the financial services industry.  While at Lightyear, Mr. Johnston was part of the team that executed the first LBO in the student lending industry through the acquisition of Collegiate Funding Services.  He also served as Chief Financial Strategist for Collegiate Funding Services during the early stages of Lightyear’s investment.  Prior to joining Lightyear, Mr. Johnston was an Analyst in the Office of the Chairman at PaineWebber, Inc. where he worked on corporate strategy initiatives and was a member of PaineWebber’s strategic venture capital fund.  Mr. Johnston began his career in a management training program in PaineWebber’s Private Client Group.  Mr. Johnston holds a BA from Colby College and an MBA from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business.
