Mr. Chavkin joined Pine Brook in February 2008, as a Managing Director. He will participate directly in Pine Brook’s energy and financial services sectors focusing on mentoring junior deal professionals, negotiations, due diligence and other areas of the investment process. Mr. Chavkin possesses over 30 years of financial and investment management experience, including 20 years of experience in the private equity industry. Mr. Chavkin recently completed a 17-year career with JP Morgan Partners (“JPMP”), a multi-billion dollar private equity firm affiliated with JP Morgan Chase, where he was the Chief Investment Officer from 2001 to 2006. Prior to becoming JPMP’s Chief Investment Officer, Mr. Chavkin was responsible, at various times, for building the investment teams and overseeing the firm’s investments in the energy and media/telecommunications industries, and the expansion of the firm’s international presence in Europe, Asia and Latin America. Prior to joining JPMP in 1990, Mr. Chavkin was one of the first members of Chemical Bank’s merchant banking group and its corporate finance group, specializing in mergers and acquisitions and private placements for the energy industry. Prior to Chemical Bank he held positions at Freeport McMoRan, Gulf and Western Industries and Arthur Young & Company. He currently serves as a director of Encore Energy Partners, a publicly traded energy MLP. In addition, he is a member of the Columbia College Board of Visitors, and the Columbia Business School Board of Overseers. Mr. Chavkin is a Certified Public Accountant and received his B.A. and M.B.A degrees from Columbia University.
